Summary

 

The novel Chinese Cinderella tells the story of a young girl named Adeline who finds herself growing up to the scorn of her siblings and indifference of her father following the death of her mother. She is largely unnoticed and neglected by her family, but with the support of her Aunt Baba and the encouragement of her instructors and peers at her school, Adeline gains confidence in her performance in school and continues to strive to do well. This positive attention helps Adeline develop a sense of accomplishment and agency in her own life.
