Urbanization is one word that I have seen examples of in my life. It’s interesting because urbanization is a relatively new concept and the progression of it has had many positive changes to the way our society work as well as negative. There are now more central locations everywhere thanks to urbanization, but it also means a congestion of people in one place. As the place grows, the population grows too, but what happens when the population becomes too much in comparison with what the city has to offer? Then there’s not enough space for people to live, streets will be constantly congested, jobs will become harder and harder to find… and I can see this in the present time; these issues are happening today. Ideally the city should grow along with its population, but that is hardly ever the case. As mentioned in the book, there is also the issue of connections and communities weakening due to urbanizations and big cities popping up. People are much less connected to others because there are just simply too many people to know, it’s a lot harder to make those connections when people are coming in and leaving the city constantly as well. This is why it’s difficult to say whether urbanization has been an ultimately positive change for our society; it is something I think our society is still getting used to and adjusting to, and we haven’t figured out how everyone can prosper in this type of environment yet.
