In high schools, there was an instance when our group of friends ate lunch next to the class with special education students. During this lunch time, we were huddled in a group and having our own conversation. However, a member from the students of the special education class came over and abruptly entered our conversation. My friends and I weren't rude or necessarily standoffish, but we did not know how to react. We weren't sure whether to cater to them and the topics they were talking about, or to guide them into our conversation. At this point, a teaching assistant came over to us and attempted to guide the student back to the group from the special education class. She did not completely discredit that student's attempt at conversation. Instead, she asked what he wanted to talk about and carried on the conversation herself.
